Morocco day two: turtles, water polo and soaking up the African sun

Today was a deliciously hot and relaxing day, which I don’t want to go on about given New Zealand is in the slump of winter. While you’re sipping at winter soups cuddled up on the couch, we’re applying layer after layer of sunscreen and slurping back the ice-cream. Sorry – gloating spiel officially over!
After our usual breakfast of baguettes and cucumber we ventured through the streets doing the usual exploring thing. We were in search of a little ‘tidbit’ which we have decided to purchase in every country we visit, the idea being that we’ll display them in a writers draw (like Les and Murr have, or for those that don’t know it’s like an open cabinet which you display on the wall) when we get home. Brad’s also in search of a watch and perhaps another pair of sunnies, and while I’m impressed with all the silver jewellery I’m content with yesterday’s leather jacket purchase.
After a morning of exploring the only remedy was of course an afternoon of lazing in the Moroccan sunshine followed by swimming. After just two days we’ve become very talented at soaking up the sun, so we managed this afternoon’s bout of relaxation quite easily! We were also blessed to be greeted by our little turtle friend once again, who was once again very friendly... until he mistook Brad’s toe for his lunch that is.
While I read my book, Brad joined in a game of water polo that about 20 guys were involved in, even managing to score the final goal. It was all fun and games until they asked Brad if he was Norwegian as he was so white – much to my amusement!
Tomorrow we’re off to Marrakech and depart Sud Bahia (our hotel) at 6am. This means we’ll miss our usual cucumber and baguette breakfast (or if you’re Brad cucumber, baguette and porc (purple/ highlighter pink meat!), so after dinner we rummaged around the local shop and picked up a few snacks. Unfortunately (or fortunately as I’m starting to believe) we couldn’t find anything other than chocolate, biscuits and chips – not the most nutritious start to the day! We do stop a few hours in at a Berber village but we’re not sure if there’ll be food available for purchase, but if worse comes to worst Marrakech is only four and a half hours away.
We’re back tomorrow evening at around 10pm so will have to fill you all in on our Marrakech adventures the following day. We’re quite excited so watch this space!
Love you all and hope all is well.
