Greenwich and ham

I do like my Greenwich and ham, on a boat, with a goat... Well we did go to Greenwich on a boat, I ate gammon ham in Oxford and I guess for the purpose of this blog Kylie can be the goat and if you hadn’t guessed by now, I have finally given the people what they wanted... yes Brad is finally attempting to write on the blog, although Kylie will no doubt change it to meet her standards (it is her professional reputation after all).
Friday was yet another stunning sunny day in London (I don’t know what everyone complains, we’ve barely seen rain), so we decided on yet another day of exploring. Our first port of call was Greenwich, which is located around 40 minutes down the River Thames. We took a cruise which was a great way to see the city and a great chance to sit down (I think I enjoyed sitting the most). Greenwich is a lovely old village with a nice mix of old buildings, green parks and is home of course to Greenwich Mean Time. For those of you who don’t know much about Greenwich Mean Time fear not, because I will give you a quick overview...
A long time ago some king wanted a better way for his ships to navigate, so he hired some chap to study the stars, this chap (paid 100 quid a year) basically sorted out longitude and started it at Greenwich, hence it is 0’ 00” 00” longitude. As there is 360 degrees around earth and 24 hours in a day every 15 degrees is an hour apart. Naturally there is a lot more to it so feel free to Google it, but I can say with confidence that it is 10.27pm.
Friday night we had a BBQ with Shady and Emily in their quaint little backyard. It was a great way to make the most of the sunshine which stayed around until around 9.30. We had a few beers and a game of makeshift squash against the neighbour’s house (like the game against the garage Papa), in which I crushed poor Shady and we stopped shortly after waking the neighbours baby.
Saturday was full of flat hunting around Fulham, more shopping (which is really really really fun) and finished off with some delicious fish and chips, well you’d hope they were delicious at 7 quid a piece!
Today we looked at another flat, this one in Clapham North. It is sharing with a Kiwi guy and a Bri’ish lad, has a massive room, our own bathroom, all really nice... so naturally we loved it and naturally they loved us so we will move in after Morocco (stay posted for pictures in later blogs). We then ventured to Oxford with Shady and Emily on a lovely train ride (nice and cheap travelling with Shady, perk of his job). Again we were greeted by a lot of old buildings, my favourite was definitely Christ Church and seeing inside the great hall which is used as the dining hall on the Harry Potter films, although disappointingly the roof is not enchanted to look like the night sky. We were going to go punting on the river; however the weather was looking ominous so Kylie and Emily went shopping whilst Shady and I went to a pub... a great compromise!
Now we are heading to bed, lot to sort in the morning as we leave for Morocco at around 5pm or whenever Kylie says. Stay tuned for the next blog from Morocco, most likely written by Kylie as I only like to write one in every seven or so.
Love to all
